The SECO 00072230 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNGP432-MF1 series, designed for precision finishing operations in demanding machining environments. Manufactured to the CNGP insert style with an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, this insert carries a multilayer PVD TiAlN and TiN coating paired with the CP200 manufacturer grade. It features a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The MF1 chip breaker geometry is tuned for finishing cuts, making this insert a go-to for machinists working stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium where high wear resistance and edge integrity are critical.
This insert is suited for CNC turning centers and manual lathes performing boring, facing, and turning operations. Its primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes M and S), with secondary suitability for steel and cast iron (ISO codes P and K). The neutral hand orientation and negative rake geometry support stable clamping in standard CNGP-compatible toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. It is well matched to high-precision finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional control are the priority.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct drop-in for CNGP-style toolholders accepting a 432 ANSI size code (ISO size code 120408) insert with a negative clearance and clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding method.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians following shop safety protocols. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use appropriate insert handling tools to avoid contact with the cutting edges, and inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw.
