The SECO 00072184 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNGP-MF1 series, designed for precision metal removal in CNC and manual turning applications. It carries an industry standard designation of CNGP431-MF1 and is manufactured to the CP200 grade with a multilayer PVD TiAlN and TiN coating. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. With a sharp cutting edge style and MF1 chip breaker geometry, it is engineered for finishing and light roughing operations in stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Four cutting edges are available per insert, improving cost-per-edge economics on production runs.
This insert is suited for boring, facing, and turning operations in both production and job-shop environments. Its primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, with secondary suitability for steel and cast iron. The MF1 chip breaker geometry targets controlled chip formation in difficult-to-machine materials. It is compatible with negative-rake insert toolholders designed for the CNGP insert style and is held by clamp, pin, or lever-lock methods depending on the toolholder configuration.
Designed for use with negative-rake CNGP-style toolholders that accept a 431 insert size with clamp, pin, or lever-lock retention. Primary workpiece material codes are M (stainless steel) and S (superalloys and titanium); secondary codes are P (steel) and K (cast iron). Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards; ISO code CNGG120404-MF1.
Installation is performed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping torque and retention method to prevent insert movement during cut.
