The SECO 00072177 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNGP-MF1 series, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries a CP200 manufacturer grade and features a multilayer PVD TiAlN and TiN coating for extended tool life and heat resistance at the cutting edge. It has a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0079-inch corner radius, and an 80-degree diamond (C) insert shape with a negative rake geometry. The MF1 chip breaker is engineered for sharp, controlled cutting, making this insert a reliable choice for finishing and light-to-medium roughing passes where tight surface finish tolerances are required.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations in both residential shop and industrial production environments. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes M and S). Secondary applications include steel and cast iron (ISO material codes P and K). The neutral hand orientation allows use in a wide range of standard toolholders. With four usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers a low cost-per-edge profile for high-volume production shops.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct application insert for standard CNGP-style toolholders accepting a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 80-degree diamond insert with a 0.2028-inch hole diameter and clamp, pin, or lever lock holding. ISO equivalent designation is CNGG120402-MF1.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping hardware for wear or contamination before installing a fresh edge. Follow ANSI and ISO toolholder torque and seating specifications as outlined in the toolholder manufacturer documentation — do not use insert-specific torque values not provided in the toolholder manual.
