The SECO 00072158 is an indexable square-shoulder end mill built for rigid, high-precision milling operations in metal-removal applications. It carries a 1-inch cutting diameter and accepts two AP.. 1604 series inserts secured by screw clamping. The 90-degree lead angle produces true square shoulders, making it well suited for step milling, face milling, and slotting where a clean 90-degree wall-to-floor transition is required. Overall length is 3.94 inches, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.59 inches. The Weldon flat shank seats firmly in standard end mill holders to resist pull-out under heavy feed loads. Maximum rated speed is 18,400 RPM.
This end mill is designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where indexable tooling is preferred over solid carbide for cost-per-edge efficiency. The two-insert configuration and square-shoulder geometry make it a practical choice for roughing and semi-finishing steel, stainless, aluminum, and cast materials. It is installed and operated by machinists, tooling technicians, and CNC programmers in job shop, production, and maintenance machining environments. The ISO designation R217.69-01.00-3-16 identifies it within the SECO Precimaster and R217 cutter family.
Compatible with AP.. 1604 series indexable inserts. ISO cutter style R217.69-16. Fits standard 1-inch Weldon flat end mill holders. Consult insert manufacturer data for grade and coating selection based on workpiece material.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Secure the Weldon flat shank in a properly sized end mill holder and torque the set screw against the flat per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Before mounting or indexing inserts, isolate and lock out the machine spindle following your facility lockout/tagout procedure. Inspect the insert pockets and clamping screws for debris or damage before each insert change.
