The SECO 00071662 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning (MDT) insert designed for precision grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the LCGN style with a CP500 micrograin carbide grade and PVD coating, this insert delivers consistent edge performance across a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. The neutral hand orientation and FG chipbreaker geometry support bidirectional cutting paths. Cutting height is 0.177 inches with a maximum cutting width of 0.118 inches and a corner radius of 0.008 inches. This is a single-end insert sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces.
The 00071662 is suited for external and internal grooving, parting, and profile turning applications in production and job-shop environments. Its CP500 PVD-coated micrograin carbide substrate is rated for use on primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened materials, cast iron, stainless and heat-resistant alloys, non-ferrous metals, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys. The 7-degree relief angle reduces cutting forces and supports work on thin-walled or difficult-to-machine components. It fits toolholders designed for the LCGN 16-03 insert seat size within the MDT series.
Designed for use with MDT series toolholders accepting the LCGN 16-03 insert seat size. Compatible workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before changing inserts. Seat the insert firmly against the pocket walls and clamp to the toolholder manufacturer torque specification using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and prevent edge damage.
