The SECO 00071653 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert in the MDT series, designed for precision grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from micrograin solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating, this insert delivers consistent edge integrity across a broad range of workpiece materials. Key cutting geometry includes a maximum cutting width of 0.075 inches, a cutting height of 0.177 inches, and a corner radius of 0.004 inches. The neutral hand orientation and FG chipbreaker make it suitable for a variety of chip-forming conditions. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers of this insert type.
This insert is applied in multi-directional turning and grooving operations on both conventional and Swiss-style CNC turning equipment. The CP500 grade with PVD coating is rated for use across multiple workpiece material categories including hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steels, non-ferrous materials, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys. It is well suited for light to moderate depth-of-cut applications where surface finish and dimensional consistency are critical. The LCGN style and single-end configuration are standard in MDT-series toolholders designed for this insert family.
Designed for use with MDT-series multi-directional turning toolholders accepting LCGN160301-style inserts. Compatible workpiece material categories include H, K, M, N, P, and S classifications per ISO material coding. Verify toolholder insert pocket specifications before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed according to the toolholder manufacturer's torque specifications using the appropriate insert key or wrench. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or contamination that could affect insert seating and runout. This insert style is typically serviced by CNC machinists and tool crib technicians in a shop environment.
