The SECO 00071644 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert engineered for high-performance grooving and turning applications. Running in the MDT series, this double-ended, neutral-hand insert carries a CP500 manufacturer grade with a micrograin carbide substrate and a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating. The insert measures 0.177 inches in cutting height and delivers a maximum cutting width of 0.25 inches, with a corner radius of 0.02 inches. The FT chipbreaker geometry promotes reliable chip control across a range of workpiece materials. Installation is handled by qualified machinists and toolroom technicians working on CNC or manual turning centers.
This insert is suited for both roughing and finishing passes in multi-directional turning operations. The CP500 grade with PVD coating supports cutting in a broad range of workpiece material categories including hardened materials, cast iron, stainless and general steels, non-ferrous materials, and superalloys, as indicated by primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The double-ended design extends usable tool life per insert. Typical applications include external and internal grooving, parting, and turning on CNC lathes in production and job-shop environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for MDT series multi-directional turning toolholders accepting LCMF style inserts with insert size code 160605.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-tighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's setup sheet for recommended cutting parameters for the workpiece material being machined.
