The SECO 00064928 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 24 threads per inch (TPI). Part of the Snap Tap series, it features a TiAlN/TiN coating applied via PVD process and carries manufacturer grade CP300 with material grade C6. The 60-degree included angle and right-hand orientation make it a direct-fit choice for standard UN external threading operations on steel workpieces. With a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.1366 inches, this insert is sized for consistent thread form and reliable tool engagement in production and job-shop turning applications.
This insert is intended for right-hand external UN threading on steel (material code P) in lathe and turning center applications. The CP300 grade with PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN finish provides wear resistance suited to interrupted cuts and continuous threading passes on carbon and alloy steels. It is typically used by machinists and CNC lathe operators running 24 TPI unified thread profiles on shafts, fittings, fasteners, and threaded coupling components. The ISO-standard geometry ensures compatibility with toolholders accepting the 16ER insert style.
Designed for use with toolholders accepting the 16ER insert style in the Snap Tap series. Suited for external UN threading operations on steel workpieces (ISO material group P). Confirm toolholder and pocket specifications before ordering.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC lathe operators following standard insert seating procedures. Power down and secure the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not over-torque, as solid carbide inserts are brittle. Inspect the pocket and clamping components for chips or wear before each insert change to ensure accurate thread form.
