The SECO 00064908 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TPG 322 format, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a triangular insert shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The insert carries a multilayer PVD coating of TiAlN and TiN under the CP200 manufacturer grade, providing wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. With three usable cutting edges and a flat-top chip breaker geometry, this insert is suited for honed-edge finishing and light to medium material removal. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert using a clamp-style holding method.
This insert is rated primarily for stainless steel and superalloys including titanium (ISO material codes M and S), with secondary suitability for steel and cast iron (ISO codes P and K). Typical applications include turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations. The flat-top rake geometry with a positive rake angle reduces cutting forces, making it well-suited for tight-tolerance work on difficult-to-machine alloys commonly found in aerospace, medical, and oil and gas components. The ISO code for this insert is TPGN160308, and it conforms to both ANSI and ISO industry standards.
Designed for use in TPG-style clamp-type toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO TPG 322 insert seating standards. Compatible with toolholders sized for a 3/8-inch inscribed circle triangular insert with a flat-top seat. Consult toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm fit before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp; uneven seating can cause premature edge failure or chatter. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for wear or debris before each insert change to maintain consistent cutting geometry.
