The SECO 00064901 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPMT series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features an 80-degree diamond insert shape with a positive rake geometry and a sharp cutting edge, making it well suited for light to medium-duty turning, facing, and boring operations. The insert is coated with a multilayer TiAlN and TiN PVD coating under the CP200 manufacturer grade, which provides heat resistance and extended tool life on difficult-to-machine materials. The F1 chip breaker geometry controls chip flow during finishing and semi-finishing passes. Installation and replacement are handled via screw clamping.
This insert is designed primarily for machining stainless steel and superalloys and titanium, with secondary suitability for steel and cast iron. It is appropriate for general turning, facing, and boring applications in production and job-shop environments. The CPMT style and neutral hand orientation make it compatible with standard CPMT-style screw-on toolholders. The ISO code designation is CPMT060201-F1 and the industry standard number is CPMT21.50-F1. Insert replacement is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secure in the turret before swapping inserts. Use the appropriate torque screwdriver for the CPMT screw-clamp system to avoid seat damage or screw shear. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert.
