The SECO 00064748 is a laydown threading insert designed for right-hand internal Whitworth thread cutting on CNC lathes and threading equipment. Built from solid carbide in the CP500 grade, it carries a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN multilayer coating that extends tool life in demanding threading operations. The insert is sized to an 8 threads-per-inch (TPI) pitch, with a 9.53 mm inscribed circle and a thickness of 3.47 mm (0.1366 inches). The 16NR insert style seats securely in compatible laydown-style toolholders. This insert is used by machinists and toolroom technicians producing internal Whitworth-threaded features in steel, alloy, and similar materials.
Typical applications include threading operations on manual and CNC lathes where internal Whitworth thread forms are required. The Whitworth thread standard is common in legacy British-specification equipment, plumbing, and hydraulic fittings. The CP500 carbide grade with TiAlN and TiN coating suits moderate to high cutting speeds and provides wear resistance in ferrous and alloyed workpiece materials. This insert is sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 2 units per transaction.
Designed for use in laydown-style threading toolholders that accept the 16NR insert style. Suitable for producing internal Whitworth thread forms at 8 TPI on CNC and manual lathes.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or changing inserts. Ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of chips before seating the insert, and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify thread form and pitch with a calibrated thread gauge before committing to a production run.
