The SECO 00064738 is a laydown threading insert designed for cutting internal NPT threads on CNC lathes and threading operations. Manufactured from solid carbide in the CP500 grade and finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. It carries a 16NR insert style designation and is configured for right-hand cutting with an 8 threads per inch (TPI) pitch and a 60-degree included angle. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.1366-inch thickness conform to standard Snap-Tap series toolholder pockets. Licensed machinists and CNC operators use this insert in both production and job-shop threading applications.
This insert is suited for internal NPT thread-form cutting on universal workpiece materials, including cast iron, steel, stainless, aluminum, and high-temp alloys, reflected by its K, M, N, P, and S material codes. The NPT thread standard makes it appropriate for producing tapered pipe threads used in fluid and gas line fittings across plumbing, HVAC, and industrial piping applications. The TiAlN/TiN PVD coating extends tool life at elevated cutting speeds without coolant, though flood coolant is also compatible. This insert meets ISO standards and is classified under UNSPSC code 23291804.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for 16NR-style Snap-Tap series threading toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle laydown insert with 0.1366-inch thickness.
This insert is installed and indexed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate insert screw torque driver per the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not overtighten by hand. Verify thread-form alignment and pitch with a thread gauge after the first pass before running full production.
