The SECO 00064733 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal UN thread cutting at 32 threads per inch. Built to the 16NR insert style, it carries the CP500 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN finish for extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 60-degree included angle suits standard UN thread profiles. At 0.1366 inches thick with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, this insert fits standard 16NR toolholders. It is installed by machinists and CNC lathe operators performing precision internal threading operations in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for internal threading applications on universal workpiece materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, non-metals, steel, and high-temperature alloys — corresponding to material codes K, M, N, P, and S. It is part of the Snap-Tap series and is designed for right-hand cutting. Typical applications include threading bores in components where a consistent, accurate UN thread form is required. The ISO-standard geometry ensures predictable performance across compatible tooling setups.
Designed as a replacement-style insert for 16NR toolholders requiring a 32 TPI UN internal threading profile. Compatible toolholders and boring bars must accept the 16NR laydown insert style with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle seating.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or insert-clamping wrench specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or use improvised tools. Ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of chips before seating to maintain correct tip geometry and thread accuracy.
