The SECO 00064512 is a laydown threading insert designed for internal UN thread cutting at 18 threads per inch. Built from micrograin solid carbide in the CP500 grade, it features a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating for wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert carries a 60-degree included angle and an A1 chipbreaker geometry, supporting consistent chip control during threading operations on ferrous materials. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a measured thickness of 0.1366 inches, it fits standard toolholders designed for the 16NR insert style. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators handling production threading work are the primary users.
This insert is suited for internal threading operations on cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. It is part of the Snap Tap series and is designed for right-hand thread applications conforming to ISO standards. Typical use cases include finish threading of bores in production machining environments where consistent TPI accuracy and surface finish are required across medium to high volume runs.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for toolholders accepting the 16NR insert style in internal threading applications conforming to UN thread standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw torque driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamp, as solid carbide inserts are brittle under point loading. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper location and prevent edge chipping on first contact.
