The SECO 00064434 is a laydown threading insert designed for internal UN thread cutting at 16 threads per inch. Built from solid carbide with a CP500 manufacturer grade and a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating, this insert delivers consistent thread form accuracy and extended tool life in demanding turning applications. It features a 60-degree included angle and an A1 chipbreaker geometry suited for controlled chip flow in threading operations. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.1366-inch thickness conform to standard laydown insert pocket dimensions. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for internal threading on cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel workpieces. It is part of the SECO Snap-Tap series, which is engineered for laydown-style threading toolholders used in CNC turning centers and manual lathes where right-hand internal thread profiles are required. Typical applications include threading bores in machined components where a UN thread standard is specified. The right-hand orientation and 16 TPI configuration make it a common selection for production threading of standard UN fastener interfaces.
Designed for use in laydown-style Snap-Tap series threading toolholders compatible with 3/8-inch inscribed circle inserts. Suitable for machining cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces to UN thread standards as classified under ISO workpiece material codes K, M, and P.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be stopped and all stored energy discharged before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert clamp or screw to the correct seating torque per the toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure accurate positioning and prevent pocket damage.
