The SECO 00064408 is a laydown threading insert designed for right-hand internal UN thread cutting at 12 threads per inch (TPI). Built from micrograin solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating, this insert delivers consistent thread form geometry and wear resistance in demanding cutting applications. It carries the CP500 manufacturer grade designation and features an A1 chipbreaker geometry suited for controlled chip evacuation during internal threading operations. The 60-degree included angle conforms to UN thread standards. Machinists and toolroom professionals use this insert in CNC turning and threading operations where thread accuracy and insert life are priorities.
This insert fits into the Snap Tap series tooling system and is intended for internal threading on cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. The 3/8 inch inscribed circle (IC) size and 0.1366 inch thickness are matched to compatible laydown insert pockets. Right-hand cutting orientation is fixed by the insert geometry. Typical applications include threading bores in production machining environments where ISO-standard tooling setups are used. The PVD coating process preserves sharp edge geometry and reduces built-up edge on difficult workpiece materials including stainless steel.
Designed for use in Snap Tap series laydown threading toolholders accepting the 16NR insert style with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. Rated for primary workpiece materials including cast iron (K), stainless steel (M), and steel (P) per ISO material classification. Conforms to ISO standards for threading insert geometry.
Insert seating and torque should follow the toolholder manufacturer specifications for the 16NR pocket style. Power down the machine spindle and lock out the axis drives before changing inserts. Verify insert orientation for right-hand internal threading before engaging the workpiece. Use the appropriate Snap Tap toolholder wrench or torx key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw.
