The SECO 00052438 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning (MDT) insert designed for external and internal grooving, turning, and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to style LCMR1605M0-0500-MP, it carries a 0.197-inch maximum cutting width, a 0.177-inch cutting height, and a 0.098-inch corner radius. The insert features a full radius geometry and the MP chipbreaker, which promotes controlled chip flow across a range of workpiece materials. Material grade C2 solid carbide provides the hardness and wear resistance required for consistent performance in production turning environments. Installation is handled by machinists and CNC operators working to close tolerances.
The 00052438 is suited for turning applications involving hardened steels (H), stainless and alloy steels (M), non-ferrous materials (N), and heat-resistant superalloys (S) as indicated by its primary workpiece material codes. The MDT series design supports multi-directional cutting paths, making it practical for profiling and contour turning passes where tool paths change direction. It is a single-end, neutral-hand insert, compatible with appropriate SECO MDT toolholders. The uncoated solid carbide construction makes it well suited for finishing operations where sharp edge retention is the priority.
Designed for use with SECO MDT-series toolholders accepting the LCMR1605M0 insert style. Verify pocket style and clamping method against the SECO MDT toolholder selection guide before ordering.
Insert replacement on CNC turning equipment should be performed with the machine in an E-stop or powered-down state and the spindle fully stopped. Use the torque wrench specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamping screw to avoid seat damage or insert fracture. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Dispose of worn carbide inserts in accordance with applicable shop waste and recycling procedures.
