The SECO 00050698 is a laydown threading insert designed for cutting internal NPTF threads at 11.5 threads per inch. Built from micrograin solid carbide in the CP500 grade, it carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating for wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert follows the 16NR style, operates right-hand, and is part of the Snap Tap series. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.1366 inches, it seats consistently in compatible toolholders for repeatable thread form and dimensional accuracy. Machinists and toolroom technicians working on NPTF pipe-thread applications install this insert in CNC lathes and manual threading setups.
This insert is suited for internal NPTF pipe-thread production where a 60-degree included angle and a 11.5 TPI profile are required. The CP500 grade with PVD coating supports cutting in universal workpiece materials, covering cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, non-metals, steel, and heat-resistant superalloys as indicated by material codes K, M, N, P, and S. It is appropriate for production and maintenance shops producing or repairing NPT-standard pipe-thread connections in fittings, manifolds, and similar components.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit threading insert for toolholders accepting the 16NR laydown insert style with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, used in internal NPTF threading applications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamping screw, as micrograin carbide inserts are brittle under side-loading. Verify thread form and pitch with a calibrated NPTF thread gauge after the first pass before committing to full production runs.
