The SECO 00050693 is a laydown threading insert designed for internal NPT thread cutting at 11.5 threads per inch (TPI). It belongs to the Snap-Tap series and is manufactured from solid carbide with a CP500 grade designation, finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating for extended tool life in demanding threading operations. The insert features a 60-degree included angle and a right-hand cutting orientation. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.1366 inches, it is sized for use in compatible laydown-style threading toolholders. This insert is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians performing precision thread-turning operations on lathes and CNC turning centers.
This insert is suited for cutting internal NPT pipe threads across a broad range of workpiece materials. The CP500 grade with universal primary workpiece material compatibility covers cast iron, non-ferrous metals, non-metals, steel, and heat-resistant superalloys, reflected by material codes K, M, N, P, and S. It is commonly used in production and job-shop environments where consistent, repeatable pipe thread form is required on components such as fittings, manifolds, and ported housings.
Designed as a 16NR-style laydown threading insert for use in compatible Snap-Tap series internal threading toolholders. Verify toolholder seat geometry and insert size against holder specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists on lathes or CNC turning centers with the machine fully powered down and toolholder secured before insert change. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping method — do not overtighten the clamp screw, as carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture under excessive clamping force. Confirm insert seating is flush and fully supported in the pocket before resuming cuts. Follow shop safety procedures and applicable machinery guarding standards during all tooling changes.
