The SECO 00050402 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal ISO threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the 16NR insert style with a 1.5 mm pitch and 60-degree included angle, this insert carries a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating applied under the CP500 manufacturer grade for extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch (0.3750 inches decimal) and the insert thickness is 0.1366 inches. It is configured for right-hand cutting and is part of the Snap Tap series, making it suited for high-volume production threading environments where consistent thread form and tool change repeatability are priorities.
This insert is intended for internal ISO thread cutting on ferrous, non-ferrous, and superalloy workpiece materials, covering primary material codes K, M, N, P, and S. The universal workpiece material rating makes it adaptable across stainless steels, cast irons, aluminum alloys, carbon steels, and heat-resistant alloys. Typical applications include threading bores, nuts, and internally threaded components on production lathes and multi-axis machining platforms. The micrograin carbide substrate provides the hardness and edge integrity required for precision thread forms at commercial cutting speeds.
Designed as a standard 16NR-style laydown threading insert compatible with toolholders and snap tap threading systems accepting the 16NR insert form with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping requirements before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom professional with the machine powered down and spindle locked before any insert change. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert properly without cracking the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating, as contamination can cause improper seating and premature edge failure. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and toolholder guidelines for thread-cutting feed rates and depth-of-cut recommendations appropriate to the workpiece material.
