The SECO 00050096 is a laydown threading insert designed for right-hand external threading operations on a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from solid carbide in the CP500 grade, it carries a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating that extends tool life across universal material types including steel, stainless, cast iron, and heat-resistant alloys. The insert covers a partial profile 60-degree thread standard with a TPI range of 48 to 8, making it suitable for cutting a broad spectrum of thread pitches from 0.50 mm to 3.00 mm. It fits the 16ER Snap-Tap insert style and is intended for use by machinists and CNC operators in production threading applications.
This insert is used in external threading on lathes and turning centers where a single insert must handle multiple thread pitches without a tool change. The partial profile geometry means the insert generates the thread flank angles without defining the crest or root exactly, allowing one insert to cover a range of thread standards. It is suited for both light production runs and high-volume CNC turning in job shops and manufacturing facilities. The 60-degree included angle makes it compatible with unified and metric thread forms that share that flank geometry.
Designed for use in 16ER-style Snap-Tap threading toolholders accepting laydown inserts. Verify toolholder seat and clamping style before installation. No specific machine or toolholder model numbers were provided in the product data.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key at the manufacturer-recommended clamp screw torque for the toolholder series — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamp load. Confirm insert index position and seat contact before resuming cutting operations.
