The SECO 00050091 is a laydown threading insert designed for external thread-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide in the CP500 manufacturer grade and finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating, this insert delivers consistent cutting performance across a broad range of workpiece materials. It follows the 16ER insert style and is sized for a 9.53 mm inscribed circle with a thickness of 3.47 mm (0.1366 inches). The partial profile 55-degree thread form covers a pitch range of 0.50 to 3.00 mm (48 to 8 TPI), making it a versatile choice for threading in production environments.
This insert is part of the SECO Snap-Tap series and is intended for right-hand external threading applications. It is suited for use on a wide range of workpiece materials, including ferrous metals, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys, reflected by primary workpiece material codes K, M, P, and S. The ISO-standard geometry and partial profile design allow a single insert to cut multiple thread forms within the 55-degree included angle, reducing tool inventory and changeover time in busy turning shops.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for 16ER-style external threading toolholders conforming to ISO insert standards within the Snap-Tap series.
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw specified for the toolholder to secure the insert without over-torquing. Verify thread pitch and insert orientation against the job drawing before commencing the threading pass.
