The SECO 00049961 is a laydown-style external threading insert designed for cutting NPT (National Pipe Taper) threads on a lathe or CNC turning center. Part of the Snap-Tap series, it carries the CP500 manufacturer grade and is manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN finish. The insert cuts at 8 threads per inch with a 60-degree included angle and a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. At 0.1366 inches thick, it seats firmly in compatible laydown threading toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators working with pipe fittings, adapters, and threaded connectors reach for this insert when chasing or generating NPT profiles on a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is rated for right-hand external NPT threading operations and is classified for use on a broad range of workpiece materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, non-metals, steel, and heat-resistant or super alloys, as indicated by the universal material codes K, M, N, P, and S. It is well-suited for job shops and production environments where consistent NPT thread form accuracy is required across multiple part runs. Designed for use in Snap-Tap series laydown threading toolholders that accept 16ER-style inserts. Compatible with machines and setups requiring external NPT threading at 8 TPI.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the manufacturer-recommended torx or insert-clamp wrench to secure the insert in the toolholder pocket — do not overtighten by hand or with non-rated tools. Confirm thread form and pitch with a calibrated NPT thread gauge before running production parts.
