The SECO 00049951 is a laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 32 threads per inch. It is manufactured from solid carbide in the CP500 grade and features a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating that extends tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert follows the 16ER style geometry with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a thickness of 0.1366 inches. It is used by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production and repair environments where consistent thread form and dimensional accuracy are required.
This insert is suited for right-hand external UN threading operations on general-purpose lathes and CNC turning centers. The CP500 grade and universal workpiece material rating make it applicable to carbon steels, stainless steels, aluminum alloys, cast iron, and superalloys. It is part of the Snap-Tap series and conforms to ISO standards, making it compatible with toolholders designed to accept the 16ER insert style.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting the 16ER insert style. Compatible with external UN threading applications at 32 TPI on CNC lathes and manual turning centers.
Machinist or CNC operator installation. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping screw are clean and free of chips before installation. Verify toolholder clamping torque per the toolholder manufacturer specification and confirm thread pitch setting against workpiece drawing before taking the first pass.
