The SECO 00049939 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 28 threads per inch. Part of the Snap-Tap series, it carries a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating and is manufactured to the CP500 grade, providing wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 60-degree included angle and a right-hand cutting orientation. With a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.1366 inches, this insert seats in standard laydown-style threading toolholders. It is suited for machinists and toolroom technicians working to UN thread standards on turning centers and manual lathes.
This insert is intended for external threading operations on materials spanning multiple material groups, including non-ferrous metals, stainless steels, cast irons, carbon steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. The universal primary workpiece material rating makes it appropriate for general-purpose threading applications in job shops, production turning environments, and maintenance machining operations where UN-standard threads are required. The right-hand configuration suits the majority of conventional external threading setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling insert for laydown-style external threading toolholders accepting 16ER-style inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified method when securing the insert clamp. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or damage before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and thread form accuracy.
