The SECO 00049915 is a laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread forms at 20 threads per inch. Built from solid carbide with a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating under the CP500 manufacturer grade, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability during threading operations on cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel. It carries the 16ER insert style designation with an A1 chipbreaker geometry and a 60-degree included angle. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.1366-inch thickness match standard laydown toolholders in the Snap-Tap series. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in production and job-shop threading applications.
This insert is suited for right-hand external threading on a variety of workpiece materials including cast iron, stainless steel, and steel. The A1 chipbreaker geometry promotes chip control across these material groups. The UN thread standard and 20 TPI specification make it applicable to common unified thread profiles in both production turning and repair threading scenarios. It is sized and profiled for use in compatible Snap-Tap series toolholders designed for the 16ER insert style.
Designed for use in Snap-Tap series toolholders accepting the 16ER insert style. Compatible workpiece materials include cast iron (ISO K), stainless steel (ISO M), and carbon and alloy steel (ISO P).
This insert is installed and indexed by trained machinists or CNC operators following standard lathe tooling procedures. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten. Verify insert seating and edge orientation before resuming cuts.
