The SECO 00049834 is a laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 14 threads per inch. Part of the Snap-Tap series, it is manufactured from solid carbide with a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating under the CP500 grade designation. The insert features a 60-degree included angle, an A1 chipbreaker, and a right-hand cutting orientation. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.1366 inches, it is built to tight tolerances for consistent thread form. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or repair environments rely on this insert for dependable threading performance on ferrous and stainless materials.
This insert is suited for external threading operations on cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel workpieces. It fits laydown-style toolholders accepting the 16ER insert style and is appropriate for both CNC turning centers and manual lathes where UN-standard threads are required. The A1 chipbreaker geometry helps manage chip flow during threading passes, making it practical for interrupted or continuous cuts on the listed workpiece materials.
Designed for use in 16ER-style laydown threading toolholders. Suitable for external UN threading on cast iron (K), stainless steel (M), and steel (P) workpieces as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Seat the insert firmly into the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert seating and cutting edge condition before resuming cutting operations. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements when changing inserts.
