It is manufactured from solid carbide in the CP500 grade and finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating for extended tool life under demanding cutting conditions. The insert features a right-hand cutting orientation and a 60-degree included angle, placing it in the Snap-Tap series. With an inscribed circle of 3/8 inches and a thickness of 0.1366 inches, it seats consistently in compatible laydown-style toolholders. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this insert for producing tapered pipe thread forms on CNC lathes and manual threading setups.
This insert is suited for external NPTF tapered pipe thread production across a universal range of workpiece materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, non-metals, steel, and heat-resistant alloys corresponding to material codes K, M, N, P, and S per ISO classification. Typical applications include threading pipe fittings, hydraulic adapter bodies, and pressure-system components where a leak-resistant tapered thread form is required. Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard CNC or manual lathe tooling procedures. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as solid carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excess clamping load.
