The SECO 00049744 is a laydown threading insert designed for external ISO thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the Snap Tap series, it is manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating in the CP500 grade. The insert produces a 60-degree included angle thread profile at a 1.75mm pitch, conforming to ISO thread standards. With an inscribed circle of 9.53mm (0.3752 inches) and a thickness of 3.47mm (0.1366 inches), it is sized for standard 16ER toolholders. It is suited for use by machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments.
This insert is intended for right-hand external threading operations on cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon or alloy steel workpieces. The A1 chipbreaker geometry and CP500 grade are selected for applications where PVD-coated solid carbide is appropriate across these three primary material categories. Typical installations include threading operations on turned components in job shops, contract manufacturing, and maintenance repair facilities where ISO-standard fastener thread forms are required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for 16ER-style threading toolholders used in external ISO metric threading applications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators following machine tool manufacturer torque and clamping specifications for 16ER insert pockets. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before installing. Do not exceed the recommended depth-of-cut or feed rate ranges specified in the toolholder manufacturer documentation.
