The SECO 00049692 is a laydown threading insert designed for external ISO thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide in the CP500 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating, it delivers consistent thread form and wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert follows the 16ER style, produces a 60-degree included angle, and is sized for a 3/8 inch inscribed circle with a thickness of 0.1366 inches. It is a right-hand insert intended for standard ISO external threading operations. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shop, production, or maintenance environments will find this insert suited for high-accuracy threading passes.
This insert is used in external threading applications where ISO metric thread standards apply, specifically at a 1.5mm pitch. The CP500 grade and universal primary workpiece material rating make it compatible with a wide range of materials including steels, stainless steels, aluminum alloys, superalloys, and cast irons — reflected in the workpiece material codes K, M, N, P, and S. It fits into the SECO Snap-Tap toolholder system and is appropriate for both roughing and finishing thread passes in light to medium production environments.
Designed for use with SECO Snap-Tap 16ER-style external threading toolholders. Compatible with workpiece materials coded K, M, N, P, and S per ISO classification, covering cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous, steel, and high-temperature alloys.
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully stopped and in a safe, locked-out state before handling inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Inspect the seating pocket for chips or debris before inserting, as contamination can affect thread accuracy. Follow your facility's tooling change procedures and verify thread form with a thread gauge after the first pass.
