The SECO 00048219 is a solid carbide, uncoated round turning insert designed for precision finishing operations in demanding machining applications. Built to the RCMT-F1 series standard, this insert features a round (R) shape with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, a 0.125-inch corner radius, and a full-radius cutting edge profile. The F1 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, delivering a sharp cutting edge with positive rake and positive side clearance. With four usable cutting edges per insert, it offers extended tool life per unit. HVAC or plumbing techs do not install this part — it is specified and installed by CNC machinists and tooling engineers in precision turning operations.
This insert is primarily engineered for machining superalloys and titanium (ISO material group S), which are common in aerospace, energy, and high-performance industrial manufacturing. Its uncoated, bright-finished carbide substrate with grade 883 formulation provides high wear resistance across a hardness range suited to S10, S20, and S30 material grades. It is also rated for secondary application in ISO material groups M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), N (non-ferrous), and H (hardened materials). Typical use cases include facing, profiling, and turning on CNC lathes and turning centers where tight tolerances and fine surface finishes are required.
Designed for use in RCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders accepting a 0.25-inch inscribed circle round insert. Conforms to ANSI insert code RCMT22 and ISO insert code RCMT060300 (ISO code RCMT0603-14). Compatible with toolholders and systems built to ANSI and ISO RCMT standards.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping screw are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before any insert change.
