The SECO 00046743 is a laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting operations. Built from solid carbide in the CP500 grade with a micrograin substrate, it carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating for extended wear resistance in demanding threading applications. The insert is configured for left-hand external threads at 24 threads per inch with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, and a 0.1366 inch thickness. It seats in the Snap Tap insert series and is intended for use by machinists and CNC lathe operators requiring consistent, repeatable thread form on externally threaded workpieces.
This insert is suited for threading operations across a broad range of workpiece materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, aluminum, steel, and heat-resistant alloys, consistent with the universal material compatibility codes assigned to this grade. It is a left-hand insert and is appropriate for situations where left-hand thread forms are required, such as reverse-threaded fastener applications or specific machine components. The 16EL style and size code 16 determine the compatible toolholder pocket geometry on CNC and manual turning centers.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting the 16EL insert style with a size code 16 pocket geometry, as part of the SECO Snap Tap threading system. Workpiece material compatibility codes K, M, N, P, and S are assigned to this insert grade.
Install and index this insert following the toolholder manufacturer torque and seating procedures for laydown-style threading inserts. Confirm the toolholder is designed for left-hand inserts before installation, as left-hand and right-hand inserts are not interchangeable. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing any insert. Verify thread form and pitch with a calibrated thread gauge after the first pass.
