The SECO 00046702 is a laydown threading insert engineered for left-hand external UN thread cutting at 18 threads per inch. Built from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating, this insert belongs to the Snap-Tap series and carries the CP500 grade designation. The 60-degree included angle suits standard UN thread profiles, while the 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.1366-inch thickness conform to the 16EL insert style. It is installed by machinists and CNC lathe operators working on threaded components in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is used in external threading operations where a left-hand UN thread form is required. The CP500 grade with TiAlN/TiN finish provides wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, non-metallic materials, steel, and heat-resistant alloys, corresponding to ISO material codes K, M, N, P, and S. Typical applications include threading shafts, fasteners, and fittings on CNC lathes and manual threading setups equipped for Snap-Tap-style toolholders.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement threading insert for Snap-Tap series toolholders accepting the 16EL insert style with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle.
Install and index threading inserts with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked. Use the correct torque tool for the clamping screw to avoid cracking the carbide substrate — consult the toolholder manufacturer's specification for clamping torque. Verify insert seating and shim condition before resuming cuts. Dispose of worn carbide inserts in accordance with applicable shop and environmental guidelines.
