The SECO 00046324 is a laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 12 threads per inch (TPI). Built from solid carbide micrograin substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating under the CP500 grade designation, this insert delivers wear resistance and edge stability across a wide range of workpiece materials. The left-hand orientation suits setups where conventional right-hand tooling cannot be applied. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.1366-inch thickness, it seats into standard 16EL-style toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators working in production threading applications will find this insert compatible with the Snap Tap series platform.
This insert is suited for threading operations on materials classified across multiple ISO material groups, including cast iron and hardened materials (K), stainless and heat-resistant steels (M), non-ferrous metals (N), carbon and alloy steels (P), and superalloys (S). The universal primary workpiece material rating makes it a practical choice for job shops running varied material types without frequent grade changes. It is intended for external thread profiles with a 60-degree included angle conforming to the UN thread standard. Typical applications include threading shafts, fastener blanks, and similar cylindrical components on CNC lathes and turning centers.

Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping torque and procedure. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Verify insert orientation and hand designation match the toolholder and intended thread direction before initiating a cut. Inspect the insert seat and clamping components for debris or wear prior to installation.
