The SECO 00046171 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal partial-profile 60-degree thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the 11NR insert style in grade CP500 micrograin carbide, this insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating that extends edge life across a broad range of workpiece materials. It covers a thread pitch range of 48 to 16 TPI (0.50 to 1.50 mm pitch) and is configured for right-hand internal threading. The 1/4-inch (0.2500 inch) inscribed circle and 0.1181-inch thickness conform to standard 11-size insert seating. Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians.
This insert is suited for internal threading operations in both production and jobshop environments where a single insert must handle multiple thread pitches. The A1 chipbreaker geometry supports chip control across universal workpiece materials including ferrous, stainless, non-ferrous, and superalloy stock. It is part of the SECO Snap Tap series and is manufactured to ISO standards, making it compatible with ISO-compliant 11NR insert pockets on qualifying boring bars and threading toolholders.
Designed for use in ISO-compliant 11NR internal threading toolholders and boring bar bodies that accept 11-size laydown threading inserts with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle seating. Compatible workpiece material codes include K, M, P, and S per ISO classification.
This insert is installed and indexed by qualified machinists following machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification to avoid insert rocking or seat damage. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
