The SECO 00040583 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the SNMP-M1 series, designed for precision metal cutting in turning, facing, and boring operations. Built to a square insert shape (S) with a 90-degree included angle and a negative rake geometry, this insert seats in standard clamp, pin, and lever lock toolholders. It carries an 883 manufacturer grade and a honed cutting edge for controlled entry into difficult materials. With 8 usable cutting edges and a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, it delivers consistent performance across a wide range of metal-removal applications. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and production operators are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is rated for primary use on superalloys and titanium (ISO material code S) and is also applicable to steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous materials (secondary codes M, K, and N) as well as hardened materials (H). The M1 chipbreaker geometry is suited for medium-duty cutting conditions. Typical applications include external turning, face turning, and internal boring on CNC lathes and turning centers. Its uncoated bright finish makes it especially effective in high-temperature alloy applications where coated grades can react with the workpiece material.
Designed for use in SNMP-style toolholders that accept clamp, pin, or lever lock insert holding methods with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle square insert. Compatible with toolholders specified for SNMP432 inserts per ANSI and ISO standards.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians following standard CNC lathe insert-change procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before clamping. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut listed in the Technical Specifications for the intended workpiece material.
