The SECO 00040400 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DCGT series, designed for high-precision machining of non-ferrous metals. It features a 55-degree diamond shape, a sharp cutting edge, and a positive rake geometry that reduces cutting forces and promotes clean chip formation. The KX grade designation identifies this as an uncoated bright-finish carbide insert optimized for aluminum and other non-ferrous workpiece materials. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, it suits light to moderate depth-of-cut applications in production turning and finishing operations. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators on lathes and turning centers.
This insert is suited for use in facing, turning, boring, and back-turning operations on non-ferrous materials including aluminum alloys. The AL chip breaker geometry is engineered specifically for the lower cutting resistance and higher cutting speeds typical of non-ferrous machining. It fits DCGT-style toolholders with a screw-clamp holding method. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to a range of setups. Material grades N15, N20, and N25 cover a wide range of non-ferrous applications from finish to semi-finish cuts.
Designed for use in DCGT-series screw-clamp toolholders. Industry standard number DCGT32.52F-AL and ISO code DCGT11T308F-AL allow cross-reference to compatible toolholder systems conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for CNC lathes and manual turning centers configured for non-ferrous machining.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to toolholder specification; do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide body. Verify insert seating and edge orientation before resuming cutting operations. Consult toolholder manufacturer documentation for recommended clamping torque values.
