The SECO 00038202 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ANSI and ISO designation APMX160408TR-ME11, grade F40M, designed for indexable milling operations in demanding metal-cutting environments. The insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual-layer coating over a fine-grain solid carbide substrate, providing wear resistance and thermal stability under high-speed cutting conditions. The parallelogram shape with an 85-degree included angle and a positive rake angle of 24 degrees reduces cutting forces and supports clean chip formation. With two cutting edges and a T-Land cutting edge style, this insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. It is installed by machinist technicians and CNC setup operators.
This insert is intended for use in horizontal and vertical milling applications involving steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials, with cast iron and non-ferrous metals as secondary material applications. The ME11 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and semi-finishing passes on these material groups. The right-hand designation applies to cutter orientation, and the screw-holding method ensures secure seating in compatible milling cutter bodies. This insert fits the APMX-16 series and is dimensionally suited for toolholders designed around the 160408 insert size code.

Installation should be performed by qualified machinist or CNC setup personnel with the machine powered down and all axes locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the cutter body manufacturer to achieve proper clamping torque on the insert screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Follow the cutter body manufacturer's indexing and torque procedures; do not over-tighten the clamping screw, as this can damage the insert or pocket.
