The SECO 00038091 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMG-M5 series, designed for general-purpose metal removal in CNC and manual lathe applications. It carries a TP40 manufacturer grade with a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN applied over a carbide substrate. The insert features a 90-degree square shape, a 3/4 inch inscribed circle, and a 3/64 inch corner radius. With 8 usable cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, it delivers consistent tool life across roughing and semi-finishing operations. The M5 chip breaker geometry and chamfered and honed cutting edge style are optimized for controlled chip flow and edge stability.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and stainless steel workpieces. It suits production environments where consistent chip control and coating durability are required across varying feed rates and depths of cut. The SNMG form factor accepts clamp, pin, and lever lock holding methods, making it compatible with a broad range of standard toolholders used in production turning cells and job shops. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.7008 inches, supporting moderate stock removal passes in both roughing and transitional finishing stages.
Designed for use in standard SNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp, pin, or lever lock retention. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M). Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for SNMG insert geometry; ISO designation is SNMG190612-M5.
Installation is performed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians following standard insert indexing procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp or lever lock mechanism, and inspect the pocket for chips or debris that could affect seating. Follow toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping specifications; do not over-torque the clamping screw.
