The SECO 00030482 is a solid carbide ball nose milling insert designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding machining environments. Carrying the manufacturer grade F40M and a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating applied over a fine grain carbide substrate, this insert delivers thermal resistance and edge retention when cutting ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. It features two cutting edges with a honed cutting edge style, a positive rake angle of 6 degrees, a relief angle of 15 degrees, and a corner radius of 0.9843 inches. The insert is screw-held and right-hand oriented, fitting the 218.20-250 series cutter system. Machinists and CNC programmers working in production environments will find this insert suited to medium-to-heavy milling passes.
This insert is used in milling operations targeting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The ball nose geometry makes it appropriate for contour milling, copy milling, and 3D profiling work on CNC machining centers. It is a single-sided insert conforming to ANSI and ISO code 218.20-250ER-ME12, with the ME12 chip breaker geometry optimized for controlled chip formation across a range of feed and depth-of-cut conditions. Maximum depth of cut reaches 1.7320 decimal inches. This insert is designed for use with the SECO R218.20-50 cutter series. The ANSI and ISO code for this insert is 218.20-250ER-ME12 with insert size code 250ER.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician following the machine tool builder and insert manufacturer guidelines. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified for the cutter body to avoid over-torquing the clamping screw, which can crack carbide inserts. Inspect the cutter pocket seating surface for chips or burrs before mounting to ensure proper insert orientation and secure clamping.
