The SECO 00030462 is a solid carbide ball nose milling insert designed for high-performance metal cutting in milling operations. Manufactured to ANSI and ISO standards under series 218.20-160, this insert carries a manufacturer grade of F40M and a fine-grain carbide substrate with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual coating. It features a right-hand cutting orientation, a positive rake angle of 6 degrees, a relief angle of 15 degrees, and 2 cutting edges with a honed cutting edge style. The insert measures 0.500 inches in inscribed circle diameter, 0.252 inches thick, and 1.205 inches in length. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists install this insert in compatible milling cutter bodies for precision contouring, profiling, and slotting work.
This insert is suited for both roughing and finishing passes on a range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. The ME08 chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across these material families. With a maximum depth of cut of 1.102 inches and a corner radius of 0.6299 inches, this insert handles demanding milling applications in job shop, aerospace, die and mold, and general machining environments. It is a screw-held, single-sided insert with an included angle of 90 degrees.
Compatible with SECO cutter series R218.20-32 and R218.20-01.25 per manufacturer specifications. Insert size code is 160ER and series is 218.20-160. Verify cutter body designation before ordering.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Always index or replace inserts with the machine fully powered down and spindle locked. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key for the clamping screw to avoid stripping the insert pocket. Inspect the cutter body pocket for wear or debris before seating the insert, and confirm proper seating before resuming operation.
