The SECO 00030428 is a solid carbide ball nose milling insert in the 218.20-080ER-ME04 series, designed for high-performance indexable milling operations. Manufactured from fine-grain solid carbide and coated with a dual-layer TiAlN and TiN physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability under demanding cutting conditions. It features a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, an 11-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge for clean chip formation. With 2 cutting edges and a right-hand orientation, it is suited for productive material removal in steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium applications. Licensed machinists and CNC milling specialists are the typical installers.

This insert is used in indexable ball nose end mill applications across aerospace, general machining, and die-and-mold work. It handles primary workpiece materials including steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes P, K, S), with secondary suitability for cast iron and non-ferrous metals (ISO codes K, N). The ME04 chip breaker geometry supports versatile depth-of-cut profiles, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.5510 inches. It is screw-held and fits within the R218.20 and R218.24 cutter series as noted below under compatibility. The insert is ISO-compliant and carries ANSI code 218.20-080ER-ME04.
