The SECO 00029836 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a CP500 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN coating, delivering wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 5 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 14 mm, making it well suited for moderate-depth grooving passes. The neutral hand orientation and positive 7-degree rake angle promote clean chip formation and reduce cutting forces. Machining professionals and toolroom technicians install this insert as a direct replacement in compatible LCMF-series toolholders.
This insert is intended for use in production turning environments handling a universal range of workpiece materials, including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, heat-resistant alloys, and non-metallic materials as indicated by material codes H, K, M, N, O, P, and S per ISO classification. Its double-ended design provides two usable cutting edges per insert, extending tool life between changeovers. The MC chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during grooving passes. Typical applications include groove forming, undercut machining, and parting on both horizontal and vertical turning platforms in job shop and production settings.
Designed for use with LCMF-series grooving toolholders accepting insert size 160504 with an insert seat size of 5. Compatible across ISO-classified workpiece materials H, K, M, N, O, P, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state before any insert change. Seat the insert fully and evenly into the toolholder pocket and verify clamping torque is applied per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert to prevent micro-fracture at startup. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine tool manufacturer guidelines during all tooling changes.
