The SECO 00023680 is a CNMG432-M5 indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a multilayer CVD coating of TiC, TiCN, and TiN. It carries the TP40 manufacturer grade, targeting general-purpose and semi-finish turning of steel and stainless steel. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and a negative rake geometry. The M5 chip breaker is engineered for reliable chip control across a range of depths and feed rates. With four usable cutting edges, this insert delivers consistent tool life per index cycle. Installation is performed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for facing, boring, and turning operations on steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M) workpieces. The chamfered and honed cutting edge style reduces notching and edge chipping during interrupted or semi-continuous cuts. Typical applications include external and internal diameter turning on CNC lathes and turning centers where a neutral-hand, clamp-, pin-, or lever-lock toolholder accepts a CNMG-style insert. The M5 chip breaker geometry performs reliably at moderate depths of cut up to approximately 0.476 inches.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick, negative-rake insert. Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever-lock holding methods. Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a full stop and all axis motion disabled before indexing or replacing inserts. Use a calibrated torque wrench on the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not over-torque, as carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before seating a new edge. Verify correct insert orientation and hand before resuming a cut.
