The SECO 00023612 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI/ISO designation APEX160408FR-E08, part of the APEX-16 series. It features a parallelogram shape with an 85-degree included angle, a positive rake angle of 25 degrees, and a sharp cutting edge style suited for aggressive chip evacuation in non-ferrous metal applications. The insert is uncoated micrograin carbide in manufacturer grade H15, offering a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, a thickness of 0.1874 inches, and two cutting edges. It is held in the cutter body by a screw and is designed for right-hand cutting. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers of this insert type.
This insert is intended for milling non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, copper alloys, and similar materials where a sharp, uncoated carbide edge delivers clean surface finish and reduced built-up edge. The E08 chip breaker geometry supports efficient chip flow at the depths of cut and feed rates typical for high-speed face and shoulder milling operations. It fits cutter bodies in the R217.69-16 and R220.69-16 series. The positive rake and sharp edge make it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes on non-ferrous workpieces in both production and job-shop environments.

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the spindle locked and machine power isolated per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the cutter body specification — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket and screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Always verify insert orientation and hand designation match the cutter body before resuming operation.
