The SECO 00023598 is a solid carbide trigon milling insert designed for high-performance metal cutting applications. It carries the ANSI and ISO designation 218.19-080T-M04 and is manufactured in grade F40M, a fine-grain carbide grade suited for demanding milling operations. The insert features a dual-layer TiAlN and TiN PVD coating applied via physical vapor deposition, which promotes heat resistance and extended tool life at the cutting edge. With a positive rake angle of 7 degrees, a T-Land cutting edge style, and a 12-degree relief angle, the insert is engineered to reduce cutting forces and improve chip flow in a wide range of workpiece materials.
This insert is intended for use in milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium alloys. The M04 chip breaker geometry is well suited for medium-duty milling passes with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0240 inches. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable across standard milling setups. It is installed by a machinist or toolroom technician in compatible indexable milling cutter bodies. The insert is single-sided with three cutting edges, providing multiple indexes per insert before replacement. It is compatible with SECO cutter series R218.19-16 and R217.21-R080.
Compatible with SECO cutter series R218.19-16 and R217.21-R080. Verify tool body specifications and screw torque requirements against the cutter body documentation before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Before indexing or replacing inserts, de-energize the machine and confirm the spindle is fully stopped. Use the correct Torx or hex key as specified by the cutter body manufacturer when seating the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, burrs, or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and runout accuracy.
