The SECO 00018284 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert engineered for precision grooving and turning operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from micrograin solid carbide in the CP500 manufacturer grade, this insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating that extends tool life under demanding cutting conditions. The 00018284 is designed for use in MDT-series multi-directional turning toolholders. It is appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes on a variety of workpiece material types, including hardened materials (H), cast iron (K), stainless steel (M), non-ferrous materials (N), steel (P), and heat-resistant superalloys (S). Its full radius geometry and 7-degree relief angle make it well suited for grooving, profiling, and turning operations where versatile cutting direction capability is required on CNC lathes and turning centers.
Designed for use in MDT-series multi-directional turning toolholders accepting LCMF160300-style inserts. Compatible workpiece material classifications include H, K, M, N, P, and S designations per the input data. Verify toolholder pocket specifications before installation.
Insert seating and torque-down should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the CP500 grade as specified in the SECO cutting data documentation for the target workpiece material.
