The SECO 00017237 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert in the MDT series, designed for precision turning, grooving, and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to grade CP500 from micrograin solid carbide, the insert carries a TiAlN/TiN coating applied by PVD process, which supports thermal resistance and edge retention across a broad range of workpiece materials. The neutral hand orientation and LCMR insert style make it adaptable to both left- and right-hand toolholding setups. Cutting width is 0.118 inches, cutting height is 0.177 inches, and the corner radius is 0.016 inches. This insert is sold individually but requires a minimum order of 10 pieces.
The 00017237 is suited for shops running a wide variety of workpiece materials, including hardened materials (H), cast iron (K), stainless steel (M), non-ferrous metals (N), steel (P), and heat-resistant superalloys (S). Its MDT series geometry and MT chipbreaker make it practical for multi-directional turning strategies where a single insert must handle both axial and radial cutting passes. The insert length of 0.630 inches and single-end configuration are typical of toolholders used in Swiss-style, gang-tool, and turret-style CNC turning setups in both production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use with LCMR-style toolholders in the MDT series. Compatible with workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S per ISO classification. Refer to SECO MDT toolholder documentation to confirm pocket and clamping compatibility before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out condition. Ensure the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the insert. Use the clamping screw and torque specifications provided in the SECO MDT toolholder documentation for the specific holder being used. Inspect the insert edge and coating condition before each use; a chipped or worn edge should be replaced before returning the tool to service.
