The SECO 00016834 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert in the MDT series, designed for precision grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN finish and is manufactured from micrograin solid carbide in the CP500 grade, delivering consistent edge life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert measures 0.118 inches maximum cutting width, 0.177 inches cutting height, and 0.630 inches insert length with a 0.016 inches corner radius. The double-end configuration and neutral hand orientation make it a versatile choice for machinists and toolroom technicians working in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for multi-directional turning and grooving applications across a broad spectrum of materials. The primary workpiece material codes cover hardened steels (H), cast irons (K), stainless steels (M), non-ferrous materials (N), carbon and alloy steels (P), and superalloys and titanium (S). It is well matched to finishing and semi-finishing passes where consistent chip control and surface finish are critical. Designed as a direct-fit replacement for LCMF-style toolholders in the MDT series. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer. Confirm toolholder pocket dimensions match the LCMF160304 insert seat specification before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide body. Inspect the insert seat and clamping mechanism for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
