The SECO 00016823 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert designed for use in MDT (Multi-Directional Turning) tooling systems. It carries the CP500 manufacturer grade and features a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating for wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The insert runs a neutral hand orientation with an LCMF style and MP chipbreaker geometry, making it suitable for both roughing and finishing passes in turning operations. Key cutting geometry includes a maximum cutting width of 0.236 inches, a cutting height of 0.177 inches, a corner radius of 0.118 inches, and an insert length of 0.714 inches. This is a double-ended, full-radius insert built from micrograin carbide stock.
This insert is intended for use in CNC turning centers and lathe tooling systems where the MDT series toolholders are employed. It is compatible with a broad range of workpiece material groups, including hardened materials (H), cast iron (K), stainless steel (M), non-ferrous materials (N), steel (P), and superalloys (S). Typical applications include profiling, grooving-type turning, and contour passes where multi-directional cutting paths are required. The double-ended configuration extends usable insert life before changeover. This insert is handled by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use with MDT series toolholders accepting LCMF style inserts. Insert style code is LCMF1606M0-0600-MP. Compatible workpiece material groups include H, K, M, N, P, and S per ISO classification. Verify toolholder seat and clamping compatibility before installation.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench and clamping screw for the MDT toolholder series — do not overtighten by feel. Inspect the insert edge condition and coating integrity before each use cycle.
